Youth Theater Auditions: Sweeney Todd, School Edition

Sweeney Todd has become a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical) for its Broadway premiere, and has now been adapted for high school performers in Sweeney Todd School Edition. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed, and delighted audiences across the world.

Audition Dates & Times: November 26, 2017, 7-10 p.m., and November 27, 6-9 pm
Callbacks by invitation only: November 29, 6-9 pm.

Audition info:
  • Bring a resume and headshot if you have them. If not, please allow extra time to fill out an info sheet at your audition.
  • Please come prepared to provide a list of schedule conflicts.
  • Prepare a 1-minute cut of a song with recorded accompaniment in the style of the show. Bring a CD or MP3 player with a backing track. No a cappella auditions or sheet music please.
  • Callbacks will consist of singing of preselected pieces (taught at callbacks) and group theatre excercises.

Performances: March 23-April 8, 2018, Fridays and Saturdays 7 p.m., Sundays 2 p.m., at Patio Playhouse.

Herb, a Hollywood scriptwriter currently "at liberty" is surprised when his forgotten past reappears in the form of Libby, a teenage daughter who has trekked from Brooklyn with dreams of movie stardom. With Steffy, his sometime paramour at his side, Herb decides to take another stab at fatherhood and hopefully this time, get it right.

Phonetics Professor Henry Higgins makes a gentleman’s wager that through strict tutelage in language and deportment, he can pass off a lowly flower girl as a duchess. Shaw’s classic play contains biting observations about the English class system and the ensuing predicament of women within it.

Princess Diana, the Musical tells the story of Charles and Diana, focusing on their courtship, their marriage, and her relationship with the public and the rest of the royal family. The musical culminates with her divorce, but ends after her tragic death. As the musical progresses, it portrays the evolution of the young Diana into the intelligent, mature woman who became the most famous woman in the world.

Andy has a sweet Catholic mother, a sour Catholic father, and a severely challenged younger brother named Mickey. When Andy brings his Jewish atheist fiancee to meet the folks on Christmas Eve, his worst fears about family blowups are realized. But Mickey, whose entire vocabulary is 'oh, boy' and 'wow', suddenly says 'Greetings!'. An ancient, wise and witty spirit, who is intent on healing the family, has borrowed Mickey's body. This funny, tender and poignant play is sure to delight everyone.
