Should a woman divorce her rhinoceros husband? Can she collect insurance? In this absurd world, everyday situations erupt with explosive laughter and nightmare anxiety. Venue: Patio Playhouse, 116 S Kalmia Street, Escondido, CA 92025

Synopsis: In this "un-romantic" comedy with music, recently widowed Jane struggles with her poetry, single motherhood and her well meaning but unhelpful friends who face their own demons. Although ever conscious of the specter of middle age, they all navigate the treacherous contours of being a grownup with wit, grace and humor but not without unintended consequences that will keep you laughing, guessing and knowingly nodding throughout the play. “The play’s delicate pace, richly patterned wordplay and undercurrent of rue combine to cast a moving spell that lingers in the memory, like a sad-sweet pop song whose chorus you can’t shake,” says The New York Times as Dan Fogelberg’s Same Auld Lang Syne swells in the background.

Directed by Adam Sheldon
Produced by Kat Perhach

Location: Patio Playhouse, 116 S Kalmia Street, Escondido, CA 92025
Between Vinz Wine Bar and Continental Deli

Synopsis: Described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,” the story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre—die.  Following the daily lives of the Gibbs and Webb families, as well as the other inhabitants of Grover’s Corners, Wilder illustrates the importance of the universality of the simple, yet meaningful lives of all people in the world in order to demonstrate the value of appreciating life. The play won the 1938 Pulitzer Prize.
