You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! opens at Patio Playhouse, May 2nd

ESCONDIDO, CA - You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, a musical comedy based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip Peanuts, opens at Patio Playhouse in Escondido on May 2nd. The musical will play through May 17th with a slightly different performance schedule. It will perform on Saturdays @ 7pm and Sundays @ 2pm with school performances on Friday May 8th @ 9am and 11:30 am. All performances are held at the theater at 116 So. Kalmia Street in Escondido (between Vinz Wine Bar and Continental Deli).

Tag along with your favorite characters from the classic comic strip Peanuts as Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder and the rest of the gang romp through their most memorable situations from the comic strip and TV specials.

Noah Green plays the earnest Charlie Brown, while Hunter Axton takes the part of the steadfast Schroeder, with Bobby Villegas playing the part of blanket toting Linus. Federico Mostert plays the flashy role of Snoopy, perhaps the most famous dog in musical theater. Outspoken Lucy is double-cast with Jayzlee Genovese and Baylee Valentine sharing the part.

“Grasping your Peanuts character is kind of a challenge,” explains Noah Green,” because people all know and love Charlie Brown. So they are expecting to see what they grew up with. We are all doing our research, so as not to disappoint.”

Taylor Jacobs and Anya Ernst are double-cast as Sally, with Molly Adea and Lillian Broschart sharing the part of Peppermint Patty. Haylie Johnston and Maddy Ernst are double-cast as Marcie.

“You get to experience the Peanuts characters off the page and off the TV.” says Anya Ernst. “They are right there, live and singing and being hilarious.” Her sister, Maddy chimes in with an important point. “The most challenging thing is just getting the body language of the characters right, because they are so much younger than the actors,” she says.

Completing the cast are The Woodstocks, comprised of Allison Gerchufsky, Alanna Magee, Julie Moore, Avery and Roslyn Ochoa and Jazmin Sanchez.

Brenda Townsend, the producer and Director of Patio’s Youth Theatre program, says, “Those who are familiar with the world of Peanuts will love seeing them come to life on the Patio Playhouse stage. And for those who are just being introduced to Charles Schulz’s iconic characters, they will be enthralled by the colorful costumes, relatable situations and humor within the show.”

The play is student directed by Riayan Harris who had a major role in The Little Mermaid, Jr. She is mentored by Patio veterans, Bruce Blackwell and Jennifer Purviance.

“Watching You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is like running into your old gang. You know, the kids you haven't seen for years,” says Townsend. This is what makes the play perfect for the whole family. Come to the Patio Playhouse with your children or with your neighbor’s kids and bring the adults along to enjoy the simple wisdom and childlike wonder of Charlie and his friends. And perhaps, you too will agree with one of these young actors who said, “Not seeing this show is NOT and option!”
