Youth Theater Auditions: Sweeney Todd, School Edition

Sweeney Todd has become a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical) for its Broadway premiere, and has now been adapted for high school performers in Sweeney Todd School Edition. Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed, and delighted audiences across the world.

Audition Dates & Times: November 26, 2017, 7-10 p.m., and November 27, 6-9 pm
Callbacks by invitation only: November 29, 6-9 pm.

Audition location: Patio Playhouse Theater, 116 S Kalmia Street, Escondido, CA 92025

Audition info:
  • Bring a resume and headshot if you have them. If not, please allow extra time to fill out an info sheet at your audition.
  • Please come prepared to provide a list of schedule conflicts.
  • Prepare a 1-minute cut of a song with recorded accompaniment in the style of the show. Bring a CD or MP3 player with a backing track. No a cappella auditions or sheet music please.
  • Callbacks will consist of singing of preselected pieces (taught at callbacks) and group theatre excercises.

Performances: March 23-April 8, 2018, Fridays and Saturdays 7 p.m., Sundays 2 p.m., at Patio Playhouse.

Role Descriptions

Sweeney Todd - A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focused on taking bloody revenge. Our story's tormented protagonist.

Mrs. Lovett - An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture.

Anthony Hope - A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna.
