I'm a houswife (full time). I also work for Weight Watchers (part time), volunteer on the local Little League Board (part time), volunteer at Patio Playhouse, volunteer at the kid’s school...

What I like about my job is that I get to stay at HOME! What I don't like about my job is that I have to stay at HOME!

The housewife, Kate, is my main character. I also perform Amanda McKenny, the project manager and a variety of backup roles--singing and non-singing.

While I have personally experienced a variety of the ‘working’ profiles performed--checker, waitress, teacher, secretary, computer work, cleaning woman, and telephone solicitor--I do identify with the housewife the strongest.

The beauty of this show is that it blatantly depicts how very few of us may end up ‘great’ or ‘famous’ but to those around us, the people we're a part of, sharing lives, jobs, whatever, there is no value that can be placed on ‘who’ we are.

The treasure I have gotten from this show goes beyond working on and performing 15 shows. I’ve gotten to know more people and I am richer for it. The characters of this show, their experiences, thoughts and feelings are so universal, it’s easy to identify with them. It has been wonderful seeing the actors putting their fingerprints on the words, bringing the characters, the real people, back to life for everyone.

I feel strongly connected to my song, Just a Housewife. It just hits very close to home (ha ha) because it’s where I’m at now, in this phase of my life. There are no duds in this score. Joe’s song in Act 2, those are my great uncles, my grandfather. The ‘millworker’= me, the ‘cleaning women’= me. Fathers and Sons just makes me cry, it’s frustration, hope and love. It really says it all.

The more serious songs depict timeless struggles. Finding the balance is tough, and sometimes impossible. Sometimes our lives don’t give us the options we’d like to exercise. You do your best with what you got. The ‘less serious’ songs are just fun!

The musicality of this show is very challenging. A good friend calls the music ‘deceptively simple’ meaning it looks simple, but it really isn’t. She's right. (that and getting this website stuff done!)

I usually do plays. What makes this show unique for me is that it’s a musical. I'm very excited to be a part of such a strong cast, it has been a fabulous growing experience!

This show is important to me because most of the characters--both singing and monologues express universal truths. Amanda McKenny states, “Jobs are not big enough for people.” I believe that.

One of the things I had to give up to be in the show was time with my family. So why do it? I’m an actor, it’s what you do. Everything has a price. Some things are worth the price, others are not.

It’s also important for me that my children see a different side of me. I’m more than their mother, that’s the most important aspect to them and to me, but I am unique--like they are unique. I want them to know it’s important to follow your heart.

I am so honored to be a part of this cast. The talent level is amazing and everybody is really nice, too!!!! I just can't believe I am counted among them! Seeing people thinking and creating ‘outside the box’ onstage and off--has been enlightening! We have a highly creative cast, in very many ways! The set, the ambiance, the website, the characters, the BAND(!!!)... it all works together for good.

For me, the thing that I’m most proud of in this show is conveying the heart behind my song. Oh, and getting those cubes on stage to stack ‘just right’!!!

The most enjoyable part of all this? ‘Working’ with such a unique and diverse group of people and we’ve all come together, operating as a unit, working together. That’s what it’s all about.
