In my day job, I work as the Director of Development for SAY San Diego. SAY has been around for 32 years and provides programs and services for children, families and communities. As a non-profit agency, we do amazing things to impact the lives of others and it's a pleasure to work there. In my entire professional career, I've been so blessed to have always enjoyed my jobs. After graduating from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga (remember the Allman Brothers song, Statesboro Blues), my first job was as the Promotional Coordinator for Chuck E. Cheese's. No wonder I love pizza so much! I worked 11 years for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and 4 years for the Arthritis Foundation, so I can really relate to my character Enid DuBois and her struggle to be honest and not be a dishonest phone solicitor. Personally, I have nothing but contempt for any individual or "pretend charity" that tries to prey on innocent people. In my job as a Development Director, I love being able to work on public relations efforts, fundraising events and volunteer development! Unlike most of the characters in the show, I love going to work! My other love has been raising my daughter Bailey. As a single mom for the last 16 years, it's terrific to watch her graduate from high school this year and get ready to go to college in the fall. Any apprehension I've felt has turned to pride (and relief!) My other "child" is Chauncey the pug...he snorts, he snores and he breaks wind, but he's a lot of fun! I love being involved in acting after being away from the stage for 7 years. My closest friends are the ones I met back when I was a teenager in Athens Creative Theatre. The theatre allows you a great release for expression and I encourage anyone to pursue it if they have an interest. My favorite song in the show is Brother Trucker. It reminds me of Georgia and it makes me laugh. Fathers and Sons is beautiful, but it makes me too sad to listen to it! In addition to Enid Dubois, I play Rose Hoffman, the old-fashioned school teacher. From Rose's perspective, I'm glad I can spel...uh, make that spell, and I'm grateful to the good teachers I had in Athens, Georgia that inspired me to learn my readin', ritin' and 'rithmetic. As for little ol' Enid DuBois, it's refreshing to play a character that has some innocence and cares about other people. I hope I have some of those qualities, too! Being a part of the Working cast has been great. I haven't acted in 7 years, so it's been fun to jump back in again and I hope to be involved in future Patio productions. I would encourage anyone with an interest in theatre to try out for a play...it's a terrific thing to do and you'll be surprised at how much enjoyment you'll get from the experience. We have a terrific cast and I love working with everyone. I'm so grateful to Richard and Mary for casting me and to Deborah for her "sidebar support." I hope you all enjoy the show immensely! |
